There is still a lot of catching up to do in Germany when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions. Cities and municipalities as well as business and industry could make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions by using innovative LED tube technology.
"Since outdoor lighting alone accounts for around 40 percent of total municipal electricity consumption in cities and municipalities, there could be considerable savings potential. If all the fluorescent tubes in the public space of German cities and municipalities were replaced, that would be around 75 million tons of CO2 annually," says Stefan Svanberg, managing director of GLT. An average municipality with 10,000 inhabitants would save 25,000 tons of CO2 annually by replacing pipes. In addition to the positive climate effect, this corresponds to a budget relief of an average of two million euros.
